Irish Soda Bread

  • 1 1/3 cups whole milk
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 4 tbsp. unsalted butter cut into pieces
  • 1 cup wheat bran
  • 1/4 cup caraway seeds
  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Mix milk and vinegar together and let stand until thick
  3. Whisk together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda
  4. Cut in butter
  5. Add bran, caraway seeds, mix
  6. Add milk mixture, mix until dough comes together
  7. Turn out onto lightly floured surface, knead
  8. Shape into an oval, cut x into top about 1/2 inch deep, dust with flour
  9. Bake, rotating pan halfway, about 1 hours
