For the love of food
- 1 1/3 cups whole milk
- 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 4 tbsp. unsalted butter cut into pieces
- 1 cup wheat bran
- 1/4 cup caraway seeds
- Preheat oven to 350
- Mix milk and vinegar together and let stand until thick
- Whisk together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda
- Cut in butter
- Add bran, caraway seeds, mix
- Add milk mixture, mix until dough comes together
- Turn out onto lightly floured surface, knead
- Shape into an oval, cut x into top about 1/2 inch deep, dust with flour
- Bake, rotating pan halfway, about 1 hours
