Crumb Cake (MOM)

  • Wax paper a 9″ square cake pan
  • Cream 3/4 cup butter.  Gradually blend in 1 cup sugar; beat until light and fluffy
  • Blend of sift together:
    • 2 cups flour
    • 1 tsp. cinnamon
    • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    • 1/4 tsp. cloves
    • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture (cut in)
  • Measure and reserve 1 cup of mixture
  • To remaining mixture, add 1 tsp. baking soda.
  • Beat until foamy two eggs; beat in 3/4 cup sour milk
  • Make a well in centre of flour mixture; add liquids and combine
  • Sprinkle crumb mixture on top and press down lightly.
  • Bake at 350 for 40-50 minutes
