- Peel potatoes and one onion
- Grease the dish
- Layer the potatoes, rings of onions, salt and pepper, etc.
- In a saucepan, warm 3/4 cup milk with a knob of butter; bring to the boil
- Pour milk over top of the potatoes
- Cook for 1-1.5 hours at 350-375

Macaroni Cheese (MOM)
- Cook 1 cup macaroni; drain.
- Melt in a saucepan 1/4 cup butter or margarine. Add 1 tbsp. chopped onion. Cook slowly until tender but not browned.
- Blend in: 1/4 cup flour, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. dry mustard, pepper.
- Gradually stir in 2 cups milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Add 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, stir until melted. Add cooked macaroni and blend well.
- Pour into a buttered casserole, sprinkle with grated cheese and breadcrumbs.
- Bake at 375 for 30 minutes.
Sosaties (MOM)
grate 3 onions
1 tbsp. of curry powder
2 cloves crushed garlic
little salt, lemon juice
2 tsp. apricot jam
Mix very smoothly until it is a little runny, then add to the onion mixture. Marinade pork chops overnight.
Boeboetjie (MOM)
1-1.5 lb. mince
1 medium onion
1 apple (or apricots)
1 banana
handful of raisins and peanuts
2 slices of bread left to soak in milk for 1/2 hour
2 tsp. curry powder
salt
2 eggs
Saute onion and apple; add curry powder. Add meat and brown; add fruits and nuts. Squeeze milk out of bread; add bread, stirring into meat. Put in casserole dish. Cook for about 3/4 hour, stirring occasionally so it doesn’t burn (at 325). Beat eggs and milk, pour over meat. Cook for another 1/2 hour.
